Metro Distributors, Inc. was started by its founder, George A. Martin, in 1949. From 1949 to 1982 George was a true pioneer businessman as he created good will and a very large customer base all the way up to his death in 1982. His legacy to this company is the key to its existence today. Many of the customer relationships formed by him are still in existence today!
In 1982, his son Joseph A. Martin continued the company, during which time it was transitioning from a single product (the re-chrome bumper) to multiple product lines (the aftermarket parts and the re-manufacturing of the plastic bumpers).
Our Product Lines
The company’s single product from 1949 to 1980 was the re-chromed bumper. In the early 1980’s the chrome bumper for automobiles was beginning to be exchanged for the plastic bumper to increase fuel economy by reducing the vehicles weight. Today the chrome plated bumper still exists, but ever so slightly. In the early 1980’s two things happened, one is the company began to repair plastic bumpers in place of the re-chrome bumper and the aftermarket parts began to be sold to body shops as an alternative to the original equipment replacement parts. Thus the company went from a single component product, the chrome bumper, to multiple product lines: plastic bumpers, aftermarket sheet metal first and then a little later on lighting, and then cooling products. The latest edition to our company’s product line came in 1986, which was the reconditioned alloy wheel.
About Our Founder
George A Martin, June 27, 1928 - April 24, 1982
George started the company as an independent distributor of re-chromed bumpers to the body shops as they would sublet the work to George’s Bumper Plating Service. In turn George would have Benton Plating Service process the companies work. From the companies beginning all the way into the early 1980’s George’s business grew as he accommodated customers from Palm Springs to Riverside and beyond. He was a man that was extremely liked by all who knew him. He was great with stories, and he loved to hunt and fish. He was a true pioneer in his field and a fierce businessman that fought hard to provide his best to his customers, until his life was cut short by Colon Cancer at age 53 in April, 1982.
